Grant Writing Basics: Individual Class- Writing the Problem Statement

« back to classes page
Grants are funds that help nonprofit organizations finance projects, programs, research, or services to solve problems and advance opportunities in communities they serve. Organizations are also better able to fill gaps and sustain operations that expand and meet community needs. Are you grant-ready? What kind of grant are you looking for? How do you tell your story, and ensure it stands out to donors? How do you recognize and avoid common pitfalls? These are important questions this course will examine in the Grant Writing Basics 4-part series. Writing grant proposals is frequently a crucial element of an organization’s fundraising strategy. The skills applied matter. Employing a tailored approach from the initial application – to after the award is granted – can reduce frustration and increase chances of success in your grant writing journey.
The Grant Writing Basics course offers a 4-part series on the basics of writing grants. The content will cover: 1) An Overview of Grant Writing Basics, 2) Grant Readiness: Brand Identity, Telling Your Story; 3) Writing an Effective Needs/Problem Statement and a Compelling Narrative to Support Your Work; and 4) The Dos and Don’ts of Grant Writing: Keys to Avoid Pitfalls. The course will start with preparation then move to critical components of the grant proposal – sharing tips and tools for writing a competitive grant proposal. This course is intended for beginners (individuals seeking grant funding support for the first time), and professionals in the nonprofit industry who want a refresher on the basics to improve their future success.
